Safety of Mail Order Medications

Just like food, certain medications must be kept at certain temperatures to be effective. Most drugs are to be stored at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit) or must be kept cold (insulin and probiotics). On a hot summer day, a mailbox can reach well over 100 degrees. This has brought about the question of how safe and effective are mail order drugs?

It has been proven that extreme temperatures can affect the effectiveness of prescription drugs. If you do use mail order, be sure that you get your medications out of the mailbox as soon as possible. If you seem to be having a problem, let your doctor know. More and more patients are being forced to use mail order. Be sure your medications keep the effectiveness and know the conditions in which they should be stored. If in doubt, call your local pharmacist and ask.
